I had been looking for someone to write me a book along the lines of the Encyclopedia of Islamic Finance for quite a few years when I was approached by Dr Aly Khorshid to write the book. Seeing the popularity of our Islamic Finance series, and also witnessing how Islamic finance has grown over the years, my feeling was a book such as this would appeal to newcomers to Islamic finance (of which there are many) as well as serve as a helpful reference text for practitioners already familiar with the subject area.

Why this encyclopedia is particularly interesting for me is because it covers special issues such as the role of women and ethical investment versus Islamic investment, while also looking at the products and application of them. Of course there is also a whole section devoted to giving an overview of Islamic finance, which for newcomers to this subject area is essential. Also for newcomers, there is a handy glossary which has detailed descriptions.

It has been a pleasure working on this book and it is already proving to be hit so all the hard work has been worthwhile.
